Its a waiting game

My first post of 2012 and it’s a happy one. I finally completed writing my first ever novel. All 2 and a half years and 120k words of it, so that’s quite a nice life achievement if you ask me. It’s taken several re-writes before I felt reasonably happy with the finished product but I wonder if that nagging feeling is common amongst most that write a book, could I have done it better?
The funny thing is it’s nowhere near finished as it is now in the hands of my trusty test readers. Once they hand it back to me, then I need to make all the necessary corrections before sending it off in an attempt at getting published.
Wish me luck with my writer’s journey.

Recent Reads

Oh but there are so many to write about and so I must summarise as best as I can.
I am currently reading the rather slow but brilliant Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin. Not my idea of a great fantasy but still an epic fantasy adventure to many. Instead, I find myself drawn more to the childrens author Curtis Jobling, creator of Bob the Builder and now the writer of the fantastic Wereworld series. Brutal and savage, how this is classed as a kids book I have no idea, nevetheless, two have been published so far and both kept me hooked from the start. Another series I have recently completed was the Darren Shan series. A fantastic journey for the young half vampire and his supporting cast, this is definately once again, not for the too young a reader. Some nasty bits in it and also some very emotional scenes.
And to wrap up with for now, the great and magnificent Trudi Canavan has graced us with another series. The third and final one in the new Traitor Spy series will hopefully be appearing next year. The story is a continuation from the amazing Black Magician Trilogy, years later Sonia has a son and so the adventure continues through him. I have only read the first book, deciding to leave the second until the third book is written as I hate waiting between reads. I was also lucky enough to meet my favourite author earlier this year when she was here in the UK promoting the second book. She's a true legend and an inspiration to all.
Thats all for now folks, will try and write more often, between work, playing and writing my own books, poor little bloggy seems to get left behind.

Finally

Finally got around to building my new rig.
What triggered it all off was down to the fact that I won the cpu I wanted in a Shogun 2 competition. Doesnt get much better than that.
So, on top of my newly won Sandy Bridge Intel 2500k 3.3 Ghz cpu I got
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64
Xigmatek UTGARD gaming case,
8GB Corsair DDR3 Vengeance
MSI GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II/OC
750W PSU, Corsair Enthusiast
MSI P67A-GD65 (B3), Intel P67,

The machine runs like a rocket. The mobo isnt the greatest as it could have done with a few more SATA and front USB slots but for the price and features its a good'n.
As for the case, besides the uber cool name and the massive top fan it came with, its not the best. Very fiddly to get your HDD's in and its deceptively cramped inside. Looks huge but its not. Strange.
So with my super GPU, masses of ram and mega fast CPU, the first game I installed was Crysis 2 and yes, it looked shit hot. Job well done.

Im back

Yes Im back, been a long time and so much has happened since I last spoke to you all. Im still not smoking, still have NOT built my new pc and Ive read some great books and played some amazing games in the seven months since I last blogged. Yes,its been seven months. Things of note to mention, erm...I won a new i5 sandybridge CPU so the pc is finally going to go ahead. Will blog the specs as soon as I order it on the twelfth month of success.
Games Im playing, Battlefield 2, just completed the campaign and in my honest opinion it pisses all over COD. It feels a lot longer too. Got the Vietnam expansion to get through next.
Playing Alien Breed by Team 17 as well. Finding it a little repetetive at the moment and am seriously losing interest which is a shame. I just wish I wasnt getting lost in the endless maze of corridors. I downloaded a ton of stuff in the Steam sale.
Resident Evil 5, havent played a resi since number 2 as theyve all gone arcadey which is nothing like the brilliant original. Anyway, this one is okay, nothing great.
Now, Im off to have my dinner so will add a few more details later.

Back to Work

Ugh!!! Yes, its December 29th 2010 and Im in the office. Major bummer. Still, its quiet and Im getting a chance to get some writing done as I write out the events of each chapter for my potential number one fantasy best seller, or simply my own personal triumph of writing a book and keeping it forever hidden away on a USB stick never to be published.
So Christmas has been and gone and the misery begins again. One great thing that happened to me over the holidays was that I recieved a Kindle as a present from the wife. I must say its brilliant, although I was suprised at how many books that I wanted to buy which were not actualy available. I finished reading Darth Bane Rule of Two and was pleasently suprised to find that the third in the series, Dynasty of Evil was available on Kindle. A couple of minutes later and it was downloaded and ready for reading. Strange that the two books in the series before it were not available.
So yes, I can seriously recommend buying Amazons kindle reader and I can also definately recommend reading Rule of Two just for the finale. Brilliantly written, as I have mentioned in my Goodreads review, for the first time ever I truly understood how powerful the Sith were and why the Jedi feared them. I now have two books on the go, the first I already mentioned, the second is the new Assassins Creed book which I will post my opinions on at a later date as Im only on the first chapter.

December 2010

So as you know, Im currently playing Dragon Age. Well, I just ordered Mass Effect 2 for the pc. At £13 from Amazon, you know you cant go wrong with that choice. Also ordered a HDMI cable. Will finaly shift the PS3 upstairs and hook it up to my pc monitor. Maybe I'll finally get to play Uncharted 2 and complete it.
I am also currently reading Star Wars Rule of Two. Its my second SW book, the first obviously being about Darth Bane. This one continues his story with his new found sith apprentice. Its very good although the description of the action doesnt quite get the juices flowing. The feel of the charcters on the other hand is described brilliantly. You can feel Banes cold hatred ooze from his every breath. So anybody who is thinking of reading a SW book but doesnt know where to start, go to the beginning with the Darth Bane set.

Dragon Age

I've been getting well into Dragon Age on the PC lately. Its fantastic. Got stuck on a section so was forced to go online and look for a walkthrough. I hate resorting to walkthroughs but I had no choice. Despite the fact that I have been playing this for about a month, I found Im not even 15% into the game. Its huge. This is what I call value for money. Too many developers seem to feel that 6 hours of play time is enough for ones £40 these days. Chuck in some online play and its justified. Well, its not as not everybody wants to play online.
Anyway, Im going off track. If you want a massive adventure game with magic and swords, get this. Once this is done with, I think Ill give Mass Effect 2 a go.
My character is a lesbian mage by the way.
